I had a free afternoon so thought this would be an ideal ride for an autumnal day, and it was.
Todays conditions were very good. The route is all on tarmac roads, with some lovely country lanes that may be a little muddy in parts depending on the weather.
Hazards and warnings
Mud on Burland Green Lane as you go down the hill after the farm, this part can be icy in winter
A gentle start to this ride along Derby Road with little undulations to get you warmed up. At Windley you turn onto a lovely country lane which you can meander up at your own pace or race up if you feel like it. Once at the top there are lovely views over the hedgerows towards Alport Heights. This is a pretty lane where I have often stopped to take a photo. Once you turn into the gates of Kedleston Hall the mood changes as you sweep down the tree lined drive, the house comes in to view and you ride onto the stone bridge, another good photo spot. Continuing through the grounds and out of the exit gate you then re-trace your route a little before detouring up to Muggington Lane End, a nice pull up with lovely views once more. At Cross O'Th Hands you cross the road for a fast descent back onto Derby Road which you follow back to Wirksworth.
