A pleasant and easy walk form Helmsley to Rievaulx Abbey via some wooded paths
Mostly gravel paths which can be muddy after rain
From Helmsley take the Cleveland way along wooden track until you reach the road at the bottom of the hill. Carry on along the road until you reach a junction, just before a bridge. Go over the bridge, and turn right at the next junction.
Cross the stream to the farm building and turn right, past the farm and up into the woods. Follow the path through the woods, and down into fields until you come to a right turn on a gravel track. Turn right and go over the bridge. Shortly after the bridge turn right onto the footpath which heads towards the village. In the village turn right and carry on until shortly you get to Rievaulx abbey.
The moors bus stops here (during summer and winter weekends) and will take you back to Helmsley. Alternatively carry on down the road, until you meet where you turned left, and then reverse the route to the start.
