By no means the biggest cemetery in the world, Cimetière du Père-Lachaise is probably the most famous. Within it's 118 acres lie a vertiable who's who of France's most famous, plus a few who just happened to be in town when they died.
Hazards and warnings
The cemetery is still active: this means you should respect the graves of the dead, and the family members who come to visit them. Also, many graves plots are 'recycled' and used again, be careful of newly dug holes, covered by plastic covers if venturing off the main paths.
You could spend the whole day scouting out all the famous names in Père-Lachaise, and still miss a few.
